REVIEW: Inside Llewyn Davis

Posted on Posted in Film

I just want to start out by saying that I had no idea what to expect going into this movie and now I’m freaking obsessed with it.

Inside Llewyn Davis is the FML story of a solo folk artist living in New York in 1961. He bounces around crashing on couches each night of the week but essentially he is homeless. He’s created all kinds of trouble for himself and almost everything that can go wrong in this movie does. And it’s literally just a week in his life. It’s super interesting and kind of a study on how self-sabotage works. It’s a Coen Brothers movie and I can’t say enough how much I love it. But I’ll 100% admit that it’s a really strange movie that is not for everyone. So take it all with a grain of salt.

Things That Happen To/By Llewyn in the Movie (Spoiler-ish)

  • Loses someone else’s cat multiple times
  • Screams at an old lady
  • Gets told to never reproduce
  • Loses his seaman’s license
  • Doesn’t get royalties
  • Has no money ever
  • Chases a cat down a subway car
  • Gets someone pregnant
  • Goes on a roadtrip
  • Abandons a cat
  • Gets yelled at
  • Hitchhikes
  • Almost hits a cat with a car
  • Curses a lot
  • Gets in a bar fight

  • Has $12 total
  • Gets rejected professionally
  • Chases a cat down the street

You can see why I’m obsessed.
